The Sixth Form College Farnborough Careers Ideas Expo was an amazing opportunity to help shape tomorrow's workforce. It's vital that companies engage with the students who will one day fill their roles, and the security industry has far more careers to offer than most people imagine.
Ask most people what security means to them and they'll picture security guards. They play an important part, but behind them sits a diverse range of careers: research and development, system design, planning, installation, integration and decommissioning, plus the science inside the systems themselves, from X-ray physics to spectrometry and chemical analysis, applied across aviation, maritime, government, military, private and public sectors.
Drawing on a forty-plus-year career in security, our presenter also covered the career and training routes into the industry — including via the military and the security services. The students were, in his words, "the toughest of audiences to please", and the presentations were received with real positivity.
