Mass gatherings rarely arrive with a year of notice. This one came in as an enquiry and needed a screening operation big enough for tens of thousands of visitors across two separate London locations — 10 systems at one site and 70 at the other.
Within a few weeks of that first conversation, all 80 systems were prepared, tested and ready to travel. The build itself took two days, across both venues, and every machine ran 100% operationally throughout, with no downtime and all lanes working in sync.

The Machine That Fit The Lift
The interesting problem was underground. One of the venues needed screening in a basement area reachable only by a small service lift — an opening that ruled out essentially every checkpoint X-ray on the market.
The answer was the Smiths Detection 6030di with short belts: the same detection capability, in a footprint that would actually go into the lift. Five of those went in downstairs, paired with five walk-through metal detectors to complete the checkpoint.
It is the clearest illustration of why specifying matters more than sizing up. A bigger machine would have been a better machine on paper and completely useless in practice, because it would never have reached the floor it was needed on.
The Wider Operation
The larger site ran a mix of Smiths Detection 6046si and 6030di long-belt systems, configured for sustained visitor flow rather than short bursts. Every lane was fitted out properly: stainless steel high-quality rollers and tables, dressed with tablecloths so a security checkpoint inside a place of worship looked like it belonged there.
That last detail matters more than it sounds. At a religious gathering the checkpoint is the first thing a visitor meets, and how it looks sets the tone for everything after it.
